How to Change Windows 8 Password for Local Account and Microsoft Account

If you've forgotten your Windows 8 password, there are a few ways to recover access to your account. If you're using a Microsoft account, you can reset your password online. If you're using a local account, you'll need to use a password reset disk or the Recovery Console.

If you're using a Microsoft account, the process for resetting your password is pretty straightforward. Just head to the Microsoft account password reset page, enter the email address or phone number associated with your account, and follow the instructions. You'll be asked to enter a code that will be sent to your email address or phone, and then you'll be able to create a new password.

To create a password reset disk, insert a USB drive into your computer and open the Control Panel. Click on User Accounts and then click on the Create a password reset disk link. Follow the prompts to create your disk.
